For Lectures or Text-heavy sources

Cornell notes and the double-entry journal formats are both good models for class lectures or sources that have a large amount of text.  They give you a space to jot down key ideas; more importantly, there's also an area to add comments / questions, draw diagrams or add other notes / symbols.  By doing this, you actively have a conversation with the text, engaging with the material instead of just recording it, which helps deepen your understanding.  Try them both to see which you prefer!
